Mississippi River flooding...

Let's hope all goes according to plan. I really could not handle New Orleans being flooded right now at this point in my pregnancy with me not knowing when I'm to go into labor. Thank god they are opening the Morganza floodway.

I'm not religious but it is a pretty damn coincidence that the return of Christ is the same time they are expecting the river to crest in New Orleans... Hm..

Outrage

As if you don't have enough things to worry about, the level of lead in a playground's soil should NOT be one of them. This is completely ridiculous and outrageous that nothing has been done about this sooner. We are getting Arrolyn tested AGAIN for lead because of this. You would think you could trust a public place, especially with your children, but unfortunately, you just can't. There goes the neighborhood playground.  Click link below for full story.

Mardi Gras!

It's the kick off of Carnival season. I'm sooo excited. Arrolyn is older now so I think she'd really have fun and be amazed by it. I just figured out my sewing machine, so now I can make her cute little costumes and headpieces. And eat some king cake. Duh.

The start of this year so far has been really...slow. Not much has been happening in this city. It's almost as if the NYE hangover was so bad the city needs a couple weeks to recouperate. I also wanted to take Arrolyn to a parade tonight, it started at 6 but she's already sleeping! Oh well, there's lots more to come.

The question now is how many of the creatures are dying in the oil, said Eric Hoffmayer of the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Lab, who has studied whale sharks in the northern Gulf since 2002.

"Taking mouthfuls of thick oil is not conducive to them surviving," he said.

Hoffmayer has found that many of the northern Gulf's whale sharks feed off the mouth of the Mississippi River; the Deepwater Horizon site is about 40 miles southeast of the river.

"That basically confirms our worst fear: These animals do not know to stay away from the oil," Hoffmayer said.
